Do I need a second device?

Updated

Yes. Stealward works as a pair of devices: one watches, and the other carries the alerts.

Most people arm the laptop they’re leaving on the table and keep their phone with them. The laptop watches your belongings; your phone is where the alert arrives the moment something moves. Both need to be signed in to the same Stealward account.

Why two?

The whole idea is that you step away from the device you leave behind. If an alert only appeared on that same device, you wouldn’t see it. A second device you keep with you is what lets Stealward reach you when you’re at the counter, in the bathroom, or on a call.

You can use any mix of a Mac, iPad, or iPhone — for example, arm your Mac and get alerts on your iPhone, or arm your iPad and get alerts on your Mac. One note for the Mac: it receives alerts while the Stealward app is running, so keep the app open if a Mac is where you want them.

You can also send alerts to more than one device at once, and pick which ones on the Protect screen each time you arm.

Can I use just one device?

Not yet. Starting a session currently requires a second device signed in to the same account — with only one device there is nowhere for the alerts to go, and Stealward doesn’t offer a one-device mode today. If you carry another Apple device (any Mac, iPad, or iPhone), add it to your account and allow notifications on it — then you’re set.
