Saving a recording to your device

Updated

Recordings don’t stay on our servers forever. Downloading one puts a permanent copy on your device, decrypted and playable like any other video.

Downloading one

Open the session and choose to download it. Stealward fetches the encrypted recording, decrypts it on your device, and saves it. You’ll see it move through a few stages — queued, downloading, then finishing up — and land on SAVED.

Large sessions take a while. You can leave the screen; the download keeps going, and if it fails on a flaky connection it retries on its own.

Finding what you’ve saved

Everything you’ve downloaded lives in Me › Library › Downloads. From there you can:

  • Play it, with no connection needed.
  • Share it through the normal share sheet.
  • Save to Photos, which puts it in your photo library alongside everything else.
  • Remove it, which deletes the downloaded copy from this device. If the session is still within its retention window on our side, you can download it again later.

Things worth knowing

  • Downloads are per-device. Saving a recording on your iPhone doesn’t put it on your Mac. Download it again there if you want it in both places.
  • Signing out erases them. Signing a device out of Stealward deletes every download on it, along with the keys. Move anything you want to keep into Photos or share it elsewhere first. (See Signing out and deleting your account.)
  • They take up space. Video is large. If storage gets tight, remove downloads you’ve already moved into Photos.
